
An utterly enchanting story and film of loneliness, transformation and a touch of the supernatural. Ramon is a truck driver spending his life on the road and when at home living with his parents. Days and weeks are long and appear monotonous and never changing. But then an encounter gives Ramon a companion and introduces love, transformation of the spirit and the suggestion of lasting companionship, even after death.
Director Xavier Marrades is know for his documentary film making. Born in Catalunya he has made New York his home although there is much of his Spanish roots in his filmmaking style. His personal and original approach is both subtle and engaging and his sensitivity in story-telling is outstanding. “Cucli” has already been much heralded and awarded at some of the most important film festivals around the World. Wynford Jones, a farmer with a mission, has but a single pair nesting on his land and encourages the pair to breed against the many overwhelming threats that may destroy his efforts at any time. With music by Ben Mowat and narration from Katy Carmichael, Billy Clapham’s engaging film was completed as part of Billy Clapham’s Masters Degree in Wildlife Filming at UWE. Billy currently works as a researcher at the BBC Natural History Unit in Bristol. The film will be screened Sunday 28th March at 17.45.
